● Spontaneous change in vaccine poliovirus leading to paralysis
● Type 3 accounts for 60% of VAPP
Vaccine Derived Polio Virus (VDPV)
● Genetic alteration (by mutation) of vaccine virus in immunised child during replication
● Commonly caused by type 2
● Circulating vaccine derived polio virus mutates to a highly transmissible form able to cause person to person transmission
