Diphtheria is a vaccine preventable disease
Caused by Corynebacterium Diphtheriae
Incubation period is around 2-5 days
Clinical Features
●Symptoms include
●Sore throat
●Fever
●Swollen lymph nodes
●Adherent grey pseudo membrane
●Obstruction of lower airways and larynx
●Myocarditis
Treatment
●Diphtheria antitoxin along with supportive care
●Parenteral penicillin or oral erythromycin
●Pentavalent vaccine in the national immunisation schedule has diphtheria vaccine as its component
